Abstract

Based on the thermodynamic data of Al–V, Al–Fe, Fe–V binary systems, as well as a set of available experimental data, the thermodynamic optimization of the Al–Fe–V system was carried out by means of CALPHAD method. The solution phases (liquid, bcc, fcc) were modeled as the substitutional solution. B2 phase was treated as the ordered phase of bcc phase with the thermodynamic model (Al, Fe, V) 0.5 (Al, Fe, V) 0.5 . The compounds Al 5 Fe 2 , Al 2 Fe, Al 21 V 2 , Al 45 V 7 and Al 23 V 4 in the Al–Fe and Al–V systems were treated as stoichiometric compounds in the binary system and as line compounds Al m (Fe, V) n in the Al–Fe–V system. The compounds Al 3 V, Al 8 V 5 , Al 13 Fe 4 , Al 8 Fe 5 and sigma were treated as (Al, Fe) 0.75 (Al, Fe, V) 0.25 , Al 0.4616 (Al, Fe, V) 0.1538 (Al, Fe, V) 0.2308 V 0.1538 , Al 0.6275 (Fe, V) 0.235 (Al, Va) 0.1375 , (Al, Fe, V) 8 (Al, Fe) 5 and Fe 8 V 4 (Al, Fe, V) 18 , respectively. The isothermal sections over the entire composition range at 500 °C, 650 °C, 700 °C and 750 °C were calculated. It was shown that the present calculation was in good agreement with most of the experimental results.
