Eutectic-like composite of MoNbWTaC with outstanding strength and plasticity at elevated temperature
Source abstract
Abstract
Abstract In this letter, a novel RHEA matrix MoNbW(TaC)0.9 composite with ultra-high compressive strength of 2.19 GPa at 1200 °C have been identified after vacuum arc melting and annealing. The excellent high temperature strength and plasticity of MoNbW(TaC)x composites show great application prospects in the aerospace field. The MoNbW(TaC)x composites have eutectic-like microstructure composed of BCC phase and fine lamellar eutectoid structures. The fine lamellar eutectoid structures are composed of BCC phase and multi-component carbide FCC-MC phase rich in Nb and Ta. The MoNbW(TaC)0.9 composite with fully eutectic-like microstructure combines the advantages of second phase strengthening and grain refinement strengthening.
