ACOUSTIC EMISSION FROM FLAWED HEAVY SECTION STEEL PLATES
Source abstract
Abstract
In order to apply acoustic emission technology to safety inspections of pressure vessels and piping, basic acoustic emission data have been obtained from heavy section flawed steel specimens during tensile tests. When the emission rate is plotted as a function of applied stress or the corresponding value of strain, characteristically, the acoustic emission rate has a peak prior to the elastic limit. It was also found that the rate of change of emission with respect to strain depends on the test temperatures. The temperature dependence of acoustic emission is investigated by a theoretical model based on the theory of dislocations. /Author/
