Abstract

Algae cultivation is an active area of research for carbon sequestration, and the large amount of produced algae must be upcycled. In current study, we use algae as the filler to fabricate “artificial timber”, a composite material with only 2–4% epoxy binder. The flexural strength can be more than 30 MPa. The binder is efficiently dispersed in the algae phase through diluent-aided compaction self-assembly. The important processing parameters include the filler morphology, the compaction pressure, the diluent ratio, and the curing condition.
