Characterization of Spin Dynamics in Heterostructures with Interlayer Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interactions

Abstract
High Resolution Image Download MS PowerPoint Slide The interlayer Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (IL-DMI) offers a promising route toward overcoming the scaling limitations of conventional magnetic devices and enabling next-generation spintronic applications. However, its nonlocal nature makes experimental characterization challenging, and its influence on current-induced spin–orbit torque (SOT) remains insufficiently understood. In this work, we report the first use of spin-torque ferromagnetic resonance (ST-FMR) to investigate IL-DMI in CoFeB/Pt-wedge/Co/Pt multilayers. By analyzing the angular dependence of the resonance field and the symmetric and antisymmetric components of the ST-FMR signal, we establish a model to quantitatively extract the effective IL-DMI field. Notably, we observe the emergence of an unconventional spin polarization generated by the IL-DMI. This finding not only demonstrates the viability of ST-FMR for probing IL-DMI, but more importantly, unveils a mechanism by which IL-DMI can generate unconventional spins, thereby providing insights for future exploration of spin dynamics and the development of advanced spintronic devices.
