SHEAR STRENGTH OF REINFORCED CONCRETE: PART I--MEMBRANE ELEMENTS SUBJECTED TO PURE SHEAR. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE

Mikael W. Bræstrup

Abstract

A discussion of a paper with the aforementioned title by K.N. Rahal, published in this journal (Volume 97, Number 1, January-February 2000), is presented. The discussion presents the results of another simplified and accurate version of the Modified Compression Field Theory (MCFT), which illustrates that the results of the web crushing criterion (WCC) were robust to the assumed value of the effectiveness factor. The discusser concludes that the results of the WCC were better than the proposed simplification of the MCFT. Discussion is followed by closure from the author.
