POST-TENSIONED ANCHORAGE ZONES WITH SINGLE STRAIGHT CONCENTRIC ANCHORAGES. DISCUSSION

Stephen J. Foster, David M. Rogowsky

Abstract

A discussion of a paper with the aforementioned title by D.H. Sanders and J.E. Breen, published in this journal (Volume 94, Number 2, March-April 1997), is presented. The discussers seek clarifications on what appear to be anomalies in the test results, pointing out that the authors' model does not address serviceability. They question the authors' claim that wildly different reinforcement patterns from those suggested by an elastic analysis can lead to a safe design for strength. In conclusion, they point out that the equation attributed to Guyon was first proposed by Morsch using a strut and tie model more than 70 years ago.
