FIRST CRACKING LOAD OF CONCRETE SUBJECTED TO DIRECT TENSION

Lionello Bortolotti

Abstract

A reliable analytical expression describing the descending branch of the stress-strain curve of concrete in the uniaxial tension state is developed to evaluate the first cracking load in reinforced concrete subjected to direect tension. A critical steel reinforcement percentage is derived that allows the use of full ductility in tesnion of concrete and maximization of the cracking load. Design considerations aimed at establishing the safety coefficient of such a member are also provided.
