Abstract

High-corrosion-resistant nickel-aluminum bronze (NAB) is prepared by electron beam powder bed fusion followed by laser treatment. The laser treatment induces hexagons with micro- and nano-asperities on the NAB surface, leading to improved corrosion resistance which is about 200 times higher than that of the initial NAB. The high corrosion resistance originates from the formed hexagons with micro- and nano-asperities which can promote the formation of air film layers during the immersion in corrosion test solutions, thereby reducing the solid–liquid contact areas and forming a physical barrier that prevented Cl-ions from entering the matrix.
