Influence of Thermogenetic Effect on Machinability of IN718 Alloy Made by Additive–Subtractive Integrated Manufacturing
Source abstract
Abstract
In order to explore the significant impact of the higher temperature field of laser additive manufacturing metal blanks on cutting performance, the research on the machinability of IN718 alloy additive blank by thermogenetic effect was carried out with the additive–subtractive integrated equipment. The IN718 alloy blank was prepared by laser directed energy deposition (LDED). Immediately switch to milling operations for SM at different heat transfer temperatures with different milling parameters. Then, the microstructure and elemental composition of the additive blank were observed. The roughness and microhardness of the sample milled surface were tested. The microstructure changes of the near-surface layer on the machined surface of the sample were observed. Furthermore, the chip morphology and its change rules were analyzed, and the degree of the tool wear was tested. The results showed that the thermogenetic temperature has a significant effect on the machinability of the IN718 alloy additive blank. When the thermogenetic temperature was 400 °C, the surface quality of the milled surface of the sample was better compared with room-temperature machining. The surface roughness was increased by 35.7%. But the microhardness decreased by 15.4%. The tool wear was lower at thermogenetic high-temperature conditions compared to room-temperature condition. The tool flank wear VB value is as low as 82.5 μm. In addition, the chip was a strip with uniform thickness under thermogenetic high-temperature conditions, and it was serrated with uneven thickness under room-temperature condition.
