Abstract

The finite element model of the sprocket is constructed by ANSYS software, and the coupled analysis of electromagnetic field, temperature field and microstructure field is done based on the self-developed user subroutine. A sequential dual-frequency heating method is proposed to improve the temperature and hardening layer distribution of sprocket, aiming to obtain the optimized effect that cannot be achieved by single-frequency heating. Meanwhile, a multi-factors orthogonal experiment is designed and the regression model is established to optimize the induction hardening process parameters. According to the simulation results, the dual-frequency heating is more uniform than the single-frequency heating in terms of temperature field distribution and the fully austenitized area along the tooth profile, which is conductive to reducing quenching distortion and improve dimensional accuracy. Moreover, the sprocket has less heat transfer to the inside and less energy loss in dual-frequency heating, and the dual-frequency heating requires less heating time and has a higher heating efficiency.
