Effects of Cold Rolling on the Corrosion Behavior of Cu-30Fe Alloy
Source abstract
Abstract
The aim of the study is to investigate the effects of cold rolling (CR) with different deformation amounts on the microstructure and the corrosion resistance of Cu-30Fe alloys. The microstructure and the corrosion resistance of Cu-30Fe alloys subjected to different cold rolling reductions were investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy and by using an electrochemical workstation. The dislocation densities of the copper and iron phases, calculated based on the XRD data, were found to increase with deformation enhancement. Furthermore, the weight-loss results showed that the 15%CR sample had the highest corrosion rate, while the electrochemical analysis results revealed that it had the minimum diameter of the capacitive reactance arc and the maximum corrosion current density (Icorr), which was in accordance with the weight-loss results. Moreover, the main corrosion mechanism of deformed Cu-30Fe alloys is oxygen absorption corrosion, and the specific surface area of iron phase is the key factor in evaluating the corrosion rate. When the reduction is larger than 15%, the corrosion rate is reduced owing to the gathering of iron phases, which can decrease the specific surface area.
