Abstract

The influences of high-energy ultrasound and cerium addition on the rheological property of the semi-solid AlSi7Mg slurry are researched. The results show that ultrasonic vibration is beneficial to refine the α-Al phase in the slurry. The ultrasonic vibration causes the constitutional supercooling inside the slurry, which enlarges the number of crystal nuclei in the slurry and improves the microstructure of the slurry. Besides, the effects of solid fraction, ultrasonic power, and cerium addition on the apparent viscosity of the slurry are further discussed. The study found that as the solid fraction or cerium content enlarges, the apparent viscosity of the slurry also enlarges. The apparent viscosity of the slurry degrades with the increase in ultrasonic power. The corresponding rheological model is established based on experimental data.
