Abstract

This study investigates the laser selective patterning of electroless nickel coatings on polypropylene substrates, focusing on optimizing laser parameters to achieve precise patterning while minimizing thermal damage. By adjusting key parameters such as the number of laser passes, scanning speed, pulse repetition frequency, and Q-switching energy, the effects on nickel removal efficiency, groove morphology, and substrate damage were studied and analyzed. The results indicate that laser parameters have a distinct impact on the removal process, and a balance must be struck between effective nickel removal and the substrate damage. Comparatively, the optimal parameter combination was found to be one laser pass, a scanning speed of 50 mm/s, a pulse repetition frequency of 50 kHz, and Q-switching energy of 50 μJ. This study reveals the specific mechanisms by which the laser selective patterning parameters influence the nickel removal process and provides a theoretical basis for optimizing laser processing techniques in industrial applications.
