Reversible Shape Change and Energy Conversion of Semi-Smart Structure Composed of Ti–Ni Alloys and Elastic Metals
Source abstract
Abstract
Theoretical solutions were derived for reversible shape change and energy conversion of composite materials with embedded Ti–Ni shape memory alloy as sensor and actuator. Coil type composite specimens composed of Ti–Ni alloy and elastic metal were fabricated to compare experimental and analytical results. These materials contain sensor and actuator functions. Four specimens were used. The agreement of numerical results between the analytical and the experimental values were satisfying. The proposed model is simple but very useful in evaluating geometry and force characteristics of shape memory alloys as actuators or sensors.
