Abstract

This article describes an experimental investigation into the utilisation of an electrorheological fluid in a prototype au tomotive engine mount. The fluid is sandwiched between two plane electrodes and when electrically stressed, is subject to a cyclic variation in applied load. Of particular interest is the effect of a change in the applied field strength on the magnitude of the transmitted vibration near resonance. Here, for a potential differ ence across the fluid of 10 kV, it is seen that a tenfold reduction in transmissibility occurs at a frequency of 4.25 Hz.
