Abstract
Cover Photograph: In a study of low-deformation machining, the top figure shows that the recovery volume of scratches on a glass-ceramic surface varies after being annealed at different temperatures, indicating the densification and residual stress induced by the material removal process. The lower figure shows an HRTEM image of the scratch microstructure in cross-section. The excess processing energy during the mechanical removal process of glass-ceramic is consumed at the glass-crystal interface, ultimately forming microcracks and interface slips.
