Porous Bulk Specimens in C a O ‐ M g O ‐ S i O 2 Systems Using Steel Slag and Altered Additives by Conventional Sintering
Source abstract
Abstract
To obtain the porous, bulk, brick like samples the following mixtures were pressed and sintered at different temperatures: steel slag, sintering aids (soda lime glass, sodium phosphate), and common foaming additives (like dolomite, perlite). The bulk densities of final composites were from 1.3 to 2.41 g/cm 3 , and open porosities were from 15 to 40 vol%. The bending strengths of composites varied from 5.5 to 15.9 MPa. The final phase of sintered samples was forming of calcium magnesium silicate. The samples which had 80 wt% slag–5 wt% SiC–5 wt% perlite–5 wt% boric acid–5 wt% sodium phosphate showed the 40 vol% porosity and 6.7 ± 0.2 MPa bending strength.
