Abstract

This paper provides a comprehensive overview of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) design methodologies and performance regulation strategies. The core design principles of UHPC include achieving appropriate rheological properties, minimal autogenous shrinkage, low porosity, and excellent toughness. It discusses statistical mixture design, close-packing methods, rheology-based approaches, and machine learning techniques. Effective adjustment of the rheological properties of UHPC can be achieved by controlling the distribution and shape of particles, as well as utilizing customized superplasticizers and special admixtures. The synergistic effect of internal curing and shrinkage-reducing admixtures (SRA) effectively mitigated autogenous shrinkage. Enhancing the toughness of UHPC hinges on optimizing the length, content, and dispersion of steel fibers, alongside ensuring robust bonding with the matrix. Additionally, leveraging the multiscale principle can notably enhance the modulus of elasticity of UHPC. Combining UHPC design methods with performance regulation strategy can result in UHPC with superior performances.
