Abstract

This study investigates the design of ultra-lightweight foam concrete enhanced with pine needle fiber (PNF) and partially replaced with metakaolin (MTKL) to improve sustainability. Pine needles were chemically processed with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and integrated at a volume of 0–1.5%, whereas MTKL substituted cement at a weight of 0–15%. The impact of these additions on the fresh and hardened characteristics of foam concrete was methodically assessed. A Plackett-Burman design was utilized to optimize the mixture proportions for enhanced strength. The validation of the optimization findings affirmed the method’s efficacy in enhancing mechanical performance. The results endorse the utilization of PNF and MTKL as environmentally efficient elements in sustainable construction materials.
