Experimental Investigation and Thermodynamic Calculation of the Be-C-Si System
Source abstract
Abstract
SiC fibers have very important applications in aerospace. It has been reported that beryllium doping can improve the mechanical properties and high temperature resistance of SiC fibers. The thermodynamic description of the Be-Si-C system is the basis for the development of the beryllium doped SiC fibers. In this work, the Be-C, Be-Si and Be-Si-C systems have been critically reviewed. The isothermal section of the Be-Si-C ternary system at 750 °C and 950 °C were measured by XRD, SEM, EPMA, and DTA measurements. No ternary compounds were detected in the Be-C-Si system. Combined with thermodynamic and experimental data, the thermodynamic optimization of the Be-C-Si ternary system was carried out, and the optimized results are consistent with the experimental data and literature data.
